About World Green Economy Organisation

WGEO Establishment

In 2015, three core developments, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Financing for Development and the Paris Climate Agreement, recognised the importance of green growth and sustainable development for our collective future. Given the adoption of these landmark agreements, it is more important than ever for businesses, investors, NGOs and Governments to partner with one another to enable rapid, large-scale transformation and to act together for inclusive green growth and create the successful business models of the future.
Two years later, the focus of this attention is moving towards building widespread implementation through effective multi-stakeholder partnerships. Noting an estimated “SDG Prize” of up to $12 trillion a year in business value, the sustainable agenda provides us with a framework through which to translate global ambitions into sustainable, profitable solutions, creating the market conditions for private investments in green growth. As the business community realises that sustainable development is in fact, good business, to reach the transformational potential of the SDGs, it is still imperative for governments to regulate and create an enabling policy environment that incentivises investment. It is within this unique public-private collaboration that leads to the bankability of project solutions, an identified need in the landscape. Consequently, as a respected leader in promoting and implementing green economy principles and approaches driven by the private sector, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has funded and partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to officially launch the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO).

WGEO Vision and Mission

Uniquely operating along the full project life cycle, WGEO drives green economy transitions through coalitions, unlocking investments and scaling up innovations in energy, infrastructure and water. To reach its vision of a thriving global green economy which is low-carbon, climate-resilient, resource-efficient and socially-inclusive, WGEO will draw on its membership base to form practical delivery partnerships that truly have the private sector at their heart. These coalitions will include representatives across the key constituencies needed to effectively deliver green economy projects, driving innovative solutions that will remove barriers, unlock investment and bring technologies to scale.
